Avon Christmas Vendor Events

I have written blogs before about doing Avon vendor events, but the holidays are an especially wonderful time to showcase your Avon business in your community.  I am preparing for a Christmas Vendor Event this weekend and would like to share some tips for having a successful event.
The upcoming Christmas vendor event will be held at a local high school in my area. There will be many vendors and crafters all hoping for big holiday sales. How do I set myself apart?  First, I plan my display to draw attention to my table. Next, I select products and gifts, display stands and some Christmas decorations to make the table look festive. I always take a black tablecloth with a pink Avon runner, and the decorations blend well to make a nice display. Lastly, I enjoy myself! I love what I do and also love to share my business.

Share your Christmas Vendor Event

The best way to let family, friends, neighbors, and customers know about your event is to share it! I like to make a flyer and post on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and my personal website DKBeautyBiz.com. Here is what I posted for this upcoming event.

Finding Vendor Events

For Representatives interested in doing vendor events, here's what you need to do. Research your community newspapers or online to find events. Put some thought into what items to display at your table and make your presentation eye catching.  I like to use small shelves or covered boxes to give my display some height, and decorate for the season with colorful garland, leaves, pumpkins, springtime flowers, or snowmen. Whatever you have for that season, make it work for you without having to spend extra money. It always looks great!
I love to make special gift items or baskets. It makes it easy for your customers to select the perfect gift, with no fuss. For this event, I made a stocking stuffer gift set including a pair of gloves, a hand cream and a lip balm, tied with a decorative ribbon.  Get creative and think of something you think your customers will like.





I also found some Christmas glasses and coffee mugs at the dollar store and filled them with items as cash and carry gifts. It's fun to get creative and even better when customers appreciate your efforts.




I love doing these community events! It so rewarding to put a nice display together and have lots of visitors to your table.  I use a prize wheel for people to win free items just for stopping by or providing contact  information.

Understanding Aging Skin Through the Years

My last blog focused on aging skin and the makeup we should and shouldn't use to enhance those changes. Today I would like to get down to the anatomy of aging skin so we can understand this inevitable process. Keep in mind that there are many other factors that contribute to changes in our skin such as smoking, diet, hydration and environmental factors. Some we can change and others we can't.

Skin "Through The Years" Chart

Let's take a look at our skin through the years. The following chart explains what is happening to the collagen and elastin in our skin. These are the structures of the skin that maintain both elasticity and firmness. Notice the top layer, the epidermis. As we age and the collagen and elastin break down, the skin becomes thinner and fine lines appear. As we age, these fine lines become wrinkles.



While this process happens through decades of our life, we can be pro-active in taking care of our skin by making small changes that affect aging skin.

Factors Affecting Aging Skin

Now that we understand how fine lines and wrinkles form, let's take a look at other factors that have an effect on aging skin. The following diagram lists some of the environmental factors and areas of our skin they target. As you can see there are so many things that affect the largest organ in our body, the skin.

As a young girl, I can remember my grandmother letting me use her powder and "rouge". It made me feel so grown up. Of course at that age, my skin was clear and smooth.  Now as I close in on the age of 60, I realize that powder is really not my friend. Powder doesn't do me any favors and in fact ages me.  I've noticed after using a pressed powder to set my foundation, pours seem larger and wrinkles deeper. Ugh!

We use powders to set our makeup and get rid of oily areas.  But as we age, what powder really does for us is settle into creases and tiny wrinkles, drawing attention and accentuating these areas. Powder ages us.

Here are a few simple solutions to help combat the signs of aging skin.

Skip The Powder

 

1. Use a setting spray instead of a pressed powder to set your makeup.
2. Replace powder blushes and bronzers with cream formulas that don't highlight wrinkles.

Foundation-Go For The Gold

Help your skin look brighter and younger with a yellow-based foundation. Gold-tones are age-defying and counteract any grayish tones that slowly take over as we age.

Concealer-Reach For Peach

Look for a concealer that is pink, red, coral or salmon colored to cancel out blue or purple shadows under eyes.  Dot gently to blend, then add your regular concealer. Be careful not to blend too much, just at the edges.

What's the deal with makeup brushes? In a day and age of beauty and makeup, this is one thing that has always intrigued me. There is a brush for every part of your makeup routine. Makeup artists use brushes for blending, conturing, highlighting and adding product. Where do we start?
My personal opinion is to keep it simple. But that's me. I will give you the Makeup Brush 101 overview and then tell you what I use daily. You decide what's best for you.

Makeup Brushes Breakdown

These brushes are shown with their respective makeup product. As you can see, each brush has a job, blending, conturing, lining and adding color. Everyone uses different products to complete their own special look, therefore everyone uses brushes to compliment their products.

Denise's Makeup Brushes

I choose a natural look when doing my daily makeup. Working in healthcare, I try to keep it simple. Yet as a 59-year-old, I need some blending and concealing help to even out my skin tone. Below you will find the brushes I use daily. I begin with a blending sponge to apply my foundation and use #3 below to blend outward, and #5 brush to apply concealer under the eyes, around the nose and areas of darkness to even my skin tone.  Next, I use the #2 brush to apply a soft hint of color to my cheeks. I set my foundation with a pressed powder using the #1 brush.

On the weekends, I get a little crazy and add eyeshadow to my eye makeup. Using brush #4 for eye lids and bottom of #6 for a light brush of color under the eyes, just in the corner. I use Glimmersticks along the lash line and blend with a liner blending brush, top of #6, so I don't have a "hard line". Finishing the eye with mascara is always the signature look. But that topic is for another article.
